Growing up with parents who struggled with drug addiction, Payton experienced trials that shaped who he is now. Payton says, “Some people will look at [my childhood] as a negative, but I always looked at it as a positive. I am so grateful for the way I grew up. As well as those stories, even though they were rough points . . . [I] know that I’m going to be okay through some hard times.”

After growing up and getting married, Payton and his wife, Krissy, stepped up to foster Payton’s niece and nephew while Payton was playing linebacker for BYU. Payton’s brother RJ says, “It shows a lot about who he is, and his wife, Krissy as well. They’re just great people. Our nieces and nephews have had similar struggles and trials as we did as kids, and I think Payton just wants to make sure that they know that they’re loved and put in a situation to best succeed.” We thank Payton and Krissy for their examples of sacrifice and for their love of family.
