A Guide to Sharing the BYU Message

Hidden image

“There are many ways in which BYU can tower above other universities—not simply because of the size of its student body or its beautiful campus but because of the unique light BYU can send forth into the educational world. Your light must have a special glow.”

—President Spencer W. Kimball,
The Second Century of Brigham Young University,” BYU centennial address, October 10, 1975

We're All Communicators

All employees, students, and alumni of BYU are university communicators. What we say and do every day represents the university and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to important audiences—whether in social media, from a podium, on a T-shirt, through a video or photograph, by phone, in a magazine, or over lunch. This guide is for you.

WHAT WE SAY MATTERS

BYU is the flagship of the Church Educational System and one of the more visible extensions of the Church. We must hold up the light of Jesus Christ to amplify the message of the Church for God’s children around the world. What we do and say affects perceptions of—and actions toward—BYU and the Church.

OUR MESSAGE MATTERS

We believe a world yearning for hope and joy needs the graduates of Brigham Young University. We represent the Savior Jesus Christ. We seek to love and serve as He did. We have something of eternal value to offer our students and the world.

Much like a logo, effective messaging builds recognition, familiarity, and affinity. Our message describes what we want the world to know about BYU. Consistent use of the message will build relationships to help us fulfill our mission.
