How to use the monogram and the primary logo lockup.
The BYU monogram is the university’s most prominent identifying mark. Its bold type design is classic and contemporary, academic and professional. It is suitable for all circumstances and should be used consistently to create instant recognition of the university and strengthen our brand recognition on campus and around the world.
Never create your own version of the logo. Use only the approved logo digital files. Any deviations from the provided logo or usage guidelines are considered incorrect.

Usage Guidelines
Clear Space
Photos, text, and graphic elements must maintain a clear space around the entire monogram or logo lockup, equal to the width of the BYU “B” to ensure legibility and prominence.
Minimum Scale
The monogram must maintain a minimum size in which the width is at least .375 inch or 56 pixels. The primary logo lockup must maintain a minimum size in which the width is at least 1 inch or 150 pixels.
Color
The color version of the monogram or primary logo lockup is BYU navy. The logo can be reversed out to white when placed on a dark background. Make sure there is adequate contrast when placing the logo on any approved background color, texture, or photograph.
For black-and-white and grayscale applications, the monogram may appear in 100% black.
Dos and Don'ts
- Do place the logo on an area of the photograph that is simple and light or dark enough to provide adequate contrast with the color of the logo.
- Do choose a background color from the BYU marketing color palette that is light enough or dark enough to provide adequate contrast for readability.
- Do tint background colors as a way to provide enough contrast behind the navy logo.
- Don’t distort or stretch the monogram or logo.
- Don't change the size relationship of the monogram to the logotype in the logo.
- Don't rearrange the elements of the logo.
- Don’t alter the typography or recreate the monogram or logo.
- Don’t pair the monogram or logo with graphic iconography.
- Don’t use the monogram or logo in colors other than navy, white, or black.
- Don’t apply the monogram or logo on a color that does not provide adequate contrast for readability or on a complex background that obscures readability.
